Professional Experience: Schenkier was an instructor of legal writing and research
at the University of Chicago Law School from 1980-81. He has been
an adjunct professor of the Clinical Trial Advocacy Program at Northwestern
University School of Law since 1986 and has taught a Civil Discovery
seminar at Northwestern University School of Law since 2006.
Legal Experience: Schenkier was a law clerk to the Honorable Marvin
E. Aspen from 1979-80. He was an associate at Jenner & Block from
1981-86 and a partner from 1986-88, focusing on civil litigation.
Judicial Experience: In October 1998, Schenkier joined the Northern
District of Illinois as a magistrate judge, chosen by the active district
judges. He filled the vacancy created when Rebecca Pallmeyer was confirmed
by the Senate as a U.S. District Court judge. He is serving his second
eight-year term which will expire on October 30, 2014. Schenkier served
as the presiding magistrate judge from January 2008 to January 2012.
