|New Commissioner for Planning and Development|
Mayor Daley appointed Arnold L. Randall Jr, 40, to be Commissioner of the Department of Planning and Development, replacing Lori Healy. Randall is a skilled development professional who brings more than 10 years of experience in the public sector. He currently serves as Deputy Chief of Staff responsible for economic development.
Randall has been serving in the Mayor's Office as Deputy Chief of Staff, responsible for economic development. He served as Deputy Commissioner in the Department of Planning and Development for several years and also worked at the Chicago Park District as director of Legislative and Community Affairs and as Director of Planning and Development. Prior to joining City government, he worked for the Chicago Urban League and served in the Illinois National Guard as Captain and Company Commander.
From the Mayor's press release: "As we look to the future, I've asked Arnold to remember, as a guiding principle, that a strong Chicago depends on both a strong downtown and strong neighborhoods," said Mayor Daley. "We must continue to make the investments in all parts of our city - especially underserved neighborhoods -- to improve quality of life and enhance our economic diversity with good jobs and new businesses."
