Electrical Permit Applications Online Only

As of January 1, 2007, every application for an electrical permit in the city of Chicago must be submitted online. The Department of Construction and Permits (DCAP) will no longer accept hard copy applications or payments by check.

After January 1st, permit seekers will have to create an account at www.cityofchicago.org/dcap and apply for a permit there. Instructions for navigating the permit site are available at DCAP's website or in the 2007 Chicago Electric Code. Permits requiring plan submittal will still need to be entered online; a printout of the online permit can then be attached to the plans before being sent to city hall. Planners can also email a pdf version of their plans to dcapelectr@cityofchicago.org for consideration.

The city will host a series of training sessions to demonstrate usage of the site on November 3, December 8 and January 12. Those with questions about the new online application service, or wishing to register for one of the training sessions, should contact the DCAP Electrical Permits desk at 312-744-8621 or send an email to dcapelectr@cityofchicago.org.
