|New Chief of the Department of Construction and Permits|
On February 6th Mayor Richard Daley appointed Richard L. Rodriguez as the new chief of the Department of Construction and Permits. An attorney, Rodriguez has had plenty of experience working within various city departments. Most recently he has served as the managing deputy commissioner of real estate and planning for the city's Department of Aviation. Prior to that appointment, Rodriguez worked as managing director of operations for the Chicago Housing Authority.
Mayor Daley has been under pressure lately to appoint more Hispanics to his Cabinet. DCAP, under the direction of Chris Bushell, has also been continuously criticized by City Council for its slow response to permit requests. There is hope that Rodriguez will run the department more effectively by safely issuing permits in a timely manner.
