New Chicago Zoning Administrator Named

Shortly after Ed Kus, former Zoning Administrator, announced he would be taking advantage of the City's early retirement policy, a new acting administrator was named. His name is Tom Smith. Tom comes to the Zoning Department with extensive experience at the City Building Department where he concentrated on Zoning issues. Tom is a nice fit for a Zoning Department that is about to head into the process of remapping the City under the new Chicago Zoning Ordinance, which becomes effective November 1, 2004. Many experts predict this process will take several years to complete, as it will involve negotiations between the Alderman, developers, neighborhood groups, and others.
